Meet Miss May
About Me:
Hi, my name is Hannah May. I am from a small town in northwest Kansas called Oberlin, and I graduated from Decatur Community Jr./Sr. High School. I grew up on a farm in a family of four and love the small town atmosphere. I am currently a senior at Kansas State University majoring in Elementary Education with an emphasis in special education. I am excited to be student teaching in first grade this semester and graduating in May. During my college experience, I have enjoyed being involved in the Kansas State University College of Education through Education Council, Kappa Delta Pi, and Educators Rising. I also have been a member and served as the Secretary of Smurthwaite Leadership/Scholarship House.
Why I want to Teach:
I want to become a teacher because it is something I have always wanted to do. I love being around kids and helping them; I think they have a neat perspective and can actually teach adults a lot as well. I have also always enjoyed school, and was fortunate to grow up in a great school with great teachers. I definitely look up to some of my favorite teachers and know they have influenced me in wanting to teach.I want to become a teacher because almost all of my work or volunteer experience has been centered around working with kids; therefore it must be something I enjoy!
Being able to positively impact students, encourage them to succeed, and then see them progress is awesome. I am blessed to have come from a good home and loving and supportive family. However, I know not every child has that. For those that don’t have that, I want to be a stable person in their life that can support them and encourage them. I think many students have far more potential than they realize, and that potential can blossom if they have the support they need to succeed. I want to teach so I can help my students to reach their full potential and be successful in life.
