My First iMovie Trailer: Why Kansas State University College of Education?
If you are wanting or needing a quick and easy way to create a short, yet professional video, iMovie is the app to use! This was my first time using iMovie, but overall I really enjoyed using it. I thought using this app was fairly simple, and I don’t consider myself to be super great with technology. I found it was really convenient to already have a set template to use because then I didn’t have to worry about the timing of the pictures and text with the music. It also didn't take long to pick a picture or video, preview it, and then decide whether to edit or delete it. iMovie was very easy to use, however it took a while to think about how I wanted the layout of my movie to be. I reordered and edited my pictures and words several times before I was satisfied with my trailer. Although it’s great to have templates, preset frames, and music, there were times when I wanted pictures or words to be viewed longer or wish I could’ve added frames and text in certain places. However, like I said, it was fun and easy to use and still allowed for creativity and personal touch.
I think this would be very beneficial in a classroom because it is yet another way students could present projects and share work with the class. It is simple and easy to learn, yet allows students to be creative. It also looks very neat, keeps one’s attention, and looks professional. I really love the fact that it saves your projects automatically as you are working on them. I think this is an especially great feature when using it with children and in classrooms. I could see myself using iMovie for a social studies project or a book preview/report. For the most part, I think students of all ages could learn to use iMovie. However, I would probably use it in the middle to upper elementary grades and above. I am glad I had the opportunity to explore and experiment with iMovie, and I can't wait to incorporate it into future lessons!
